Grilled Calamari

grilled calamari

Grilled calamari is an easy to make, crowd pleasing appetizer.

I was looking to do something a little exotic for Valentines Day this year and when I saw the Calamari in the seafood department at Whole Foods I thought- what the heck? These were super easy to make- I bought the squid in tubes, and then sliced them into rings. Then I put them on skewers. I grilled them, along side a few lemons (the grilled lemons make for nice presentation), until they read 145 degrees with an internal read digital thermometer (I recommend the Thermapen). These took less than 10 minutes on the grill to turn opaque white, I then finished them lemon juice, a little lemon zest, sea salt and fresh ground pepper. That’s it- easy peasy! Love that photo Robyn. I’ve never ever grabbed calamari at the market because the only thing I know to do with it is bread and fry, and I best leave that to the restaurant experts. :) Thanks for this recipe, I’ll give it a try.

Lea Ann- I’m with you, I never fry anything except the occasional pan fried pork chop. This recipe is REALLY easy to prepare and grill and will make you think differently about calamari!
